Derryglen Stud at the Doha Tour 2026, Al Shaqab
MARCH 2026
Derryglen Stud fielded a strong team at the Doha Tour 2026 at Al Shaqab, one of the most anticipated fixtures on the international showjumping calendar. The squad included Deirdre Reilly, returning to competition after injury, alongside the experienced Neal Fearon.
A varied group of horses travelled to Doha. Some were there to build mileage and confidence, while others were ready to test themselves at 4* and 5* level. The tour offered each horse valuable ring time, strong competition, and early-season preparation.
Cocktail de Talma, form in the main arena
Cocktail de Talma jumped during the first week of the tour and, with a sixth-place finish in the opening CSI4* Grand Prix, proved himself once again as a top international competitor. Cocktail’s focus for the next few months is on the breeding season, where he will stand in Ireland with fresh semen available, giving Irish breeders direct access to his outstanding bloodlines.
Derryglen Obsidian, podium finish at CSI5 level
Derryglen Obsidian was one of the highlights of the tour. She jumped with experience and scope, securing an excellent third place in the CSI5* 1.55m jump-off class at Al Shaqab with Neal Fearon. Her careful technique and calm temperament stood out against a strong international line-up.
After the tour, Obsidian will take a planned break from competition while preparations are made to produce an embryo. This supports Derryglen Stud’s breeding programme and aims to carry her talent forward to the next generation.
Derryglen Qatar, first Longines Ranking class experience
Derryglen Qatar gained valuable experience in Doha, stepping up to compete in his first 3* Longines Ranking class. Qatar has exceptional scope and carefulness, and he approached the atmosphere with focus and bravery, showing why he is a horse to watch.
He will continue training and competing across Europe to build confidence and experience at international level.
Derryglen Fire Power, strong World Cup performance
Derryglen Fire Power produced a solid tour and finished with an eye-catching round in the World Cup class. His bravery, scope, and natural athleticism made him a real asset throughout the campaign. He will now return to Ireland to compete on the national circuit.
Odiamant van’t Laar, building towards the Global Champions League
Odiamant van’t Laar jumped confidently in the main arena as the team worked towards what would have been her first Global Champions League (GCL) leg. Although that leg was cancelled, she showed clear promise and scope, giving the team plenty to build on.
Odiamant is an important mare in the Derryglen Stud breeding programme, with some foals due this year via embryo transfer to recipient mares. Attention now turns to the GCL in Madrid in May.
Tour summary and safe return
The Doha Tour provided an excellent platform for the season ahead. Across 3* to 5* competition, the horses gained experience and delivered strong performances.
The tour was cut short due to the current geopolitical situation. All horses have returned home safely, and Derryglen Stud thanks the Doha Tour organisers for their support and assistance in ensuring a safe return.
